Touring the San Diego Zoo is possibly the most popular recreational activity in San Diego. People from all over California drive to San Diego to visit the Zoo and it is one of the top destinations for tourists around the country as well. The San Diego Zoo is home to close to 4,000 rare and endangered animals from about 700 different animal species. At the Zoo, you will also find one of the world's largest zoo research centers, the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, and close to one million exotic plants.
